NDC damns research predicting a run-off victory for NPP

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is unfazed by another research that has put the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the umbrella family in the November 7 polls.

Findings from a Senior Lecturer at the Statistics Department of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ezekiel Nii Noye Nortey, has revealed that none of the two political parties with large followers, the NDC and the opposition NPP will secure a first round victory in the 2016 Presidential elections.

The findings of the research suggest that a run-off will determine which political party will govern the country for the next four years.

However, it puts the NPP ahead of the NDC, revealing that the elephant family will secure 51.7% of the total votes cast to win the mandate of the people.

The NDC, according to the findings will score 48.3%.

Prof. Nortey’s work follows similar findings from the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) which also puts the NPP ahead of the NDC in the November 7 polls.

However, the National Organiser of the NDC, Kofi Adams, responding to the findings of the Professor’s work said the research is not a true reflection of what is happening in the country.

“Anyone in Ghana who is a political actor will throw the research straight into the dustbin because you cannot hold all things to be equal”, he noted.

According to Adams, the NDC is more united than ever unlike the NPP which is in disarray and therefore was confident that the umbrella family will “even improve upon the 2012 results” to have a first round victory.

He said the government under the leadership of President Mahama has done a lot to improve upon the lives of Ghanaians, believing that the electorates will reward his hard work by voting to retain him in power.

“Even if the NPP was united and together as one, the achievement of our party in government alone is so high that we will still win the elections in the first round. The NPP today is very very divided”, he added.
