MUSIGA opens nominations

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has announced the programme for the election of national executive members due to take place during its upcoming national congress in Koforidua in the Eastern Region from October 29 to October 31.

A statement from Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, the union’s Director of Communications and Special Projects, said as part of preparations for the elections, filing of nominations will commence on Monday, July 27 and will stay open till August 27.
Vetting of nominees is scheduled to take place on September 10.

According to the statement, members of the union interested in contesting for any national position will have to pay the following filing fees: president (GH¢3,000), 1st vice-president (GH¢2,000), 2nd vice-president (GH¢2,000), general secretary (GH¢ 2,000), treasurer (GH¢1,000), welfare officer (GH¢ 1,000) and national organiser (GH¢1,000).

The union has set up a number of committees to prepare the way for the congress. They are the congress planning, election, vetting and constitutional review committees.

The constitutional review committee is already in the process of collecting recommendations for amendment to the union’s constitution.

“In all, 150 delegates are expected to participate in the congress,” the statement added.
