Mushroom Farming Identified As A Lucrative Venture

By Catherine Ahiador :

Mr. Stephen Gyawn, a mushroom farmer at Anum in the Eastern Region has identified mushroom as a lucrative farming option. Mr. Gyawn who made the observation on Wednesday on Rite FM’s Akuafo Sesen with Krobea Asante noted that the country stood to generate more income from mushroom cultivation than what it currently got from cocoa if the government gave much more attention and support to the mushroom farmer.

Mr. Gyawn criticized the misconception of many Ghanaians about the short lasting of mushroom. According to him, his experience as a farmer has helped him identify mushroom as a crop that can last a whole year without getting spoilt.

The most important ingredient in mushroom farming, he explained is water which he observed could even serve as fertilizer such that fertilizer would no longer be needed in its cultivation. Water, he further explained provide all needed nutrients for the cultivation of mushroom.

He added that even excessive rains was good for mushroom farming and debunked assertions that too much rains destroyed its farming.
