Mushroom Farming Will Cut Down Unemployment Rate

Mrs. Patience Agbo, a committee member for the Mushroom Growers and Exporters Association of Ghana has on Rite FM’s Agric forum stated that the Ghanaian youth taking mushroom farming very seriously very seriously will help break the youth unemployment rate in the country, adding that mushroom farming is one of the most lucrative agriculture sectors the country can boast of.

According to Mrs. Agbo, the youth ought to be encouraged to give a second thought to farming, particularly mushroom cultivation which exactly was the reason she was encouraging the youth to get them into the sector in other to make find a good source of employment in mushroom production.

According to her, mushroom farming doesn’t demand too much effort in work. She underscored the fact that getting the mushroom seeds to purchase for cultivation was not too difficult. To her, committing oneself to the farming business was very important.

Mrs. Agbo was concerned that though demand for the mushroom consumption is very high, there aren’t too many mushroom farmers in the country adding that ‘we need more people in the sector to supply our foreign partners.’

She elaborated on the several uses of mushrooms including for medicinal purposes and called on the public to appreciate this. ‘Sicknesses remain inactive if mushroom is regularly consumed,’ she highlighted.

She attributed the cause of most sicknesses to the constant consumption of meat, suggesting that switching to mushroom cultivation could drastically reduce ill health and improve one’s health.
