More Farmers Could Have Been Affected In Fire Raid

By Austin Ofori:

The 2014 National Best Farmer, Mr.George Amankwah Asamoah who hails from the Brong Ahafo region has spelt out his frustration over a fire outbreak that razed down the farms of his colleagues and himself. Mr. Asamoah who vented his frustrations while speaking on the Rite Morning Ride on Monday said the fire affected the farms of more than 200 farmers which he is ironically thankful for.

Explaining this, Mr. Amankwah said they were grateful for the number of affected farmers and that the figure could have been hire, up to fivefold or 1000 farmers could have been affected. He attributed this to divine intervention.

He noted that this could have been disastrous for the country as the chunk of the maize produced in the country comes from there.

Mr. Amankwah also added that the climate change experienced last year affected their farms which resulted in most farms not doing well. As a result of this, some farmers out of frustration set fire to their farms to clear the ‘mess.’ He said this fire could have destroyed about ten thousand hectres of land.

Mr. Amankwah further advised, farmers, hunters, palm wine tappers and smokers to desist from the habit of setting fire indiscriminately.
