The Director of crops at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) Mr. Krobea Asante has confirmed that government has started the distribution of subsided fertilizer to all the regions through private chemical companies.
He said the aim of MOFA is to ensure that farmers have the needed support to increase their production hence the release fertilizers nationwide.
He explained that government had delayed the payment of the debt owned the private companies as a result of the economic crisis Ghana is currently facing but government cleared all arrears.
Mr. Asante further stated that, MOFA does not take the responsibilities of distributing subsided fertilizers because they don’t have the capacity of moving from one district to another but rather private companies have been charged to take the duty of distributing the fertilizer to the farmers.
He brought this light on Rite FM’s Agric Forum last Saturday.
