Minority leader welcomes Attivor’s resignation

Minority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has welcomed the resignation of the transport minister Dzifa Attivor over the metro mass branding saga.

He is however demanding full disclosure of the investigative report into the rebranding ordered by the Chief of Staff.

Madam Attivor resigned yesterday a day after the attorney general presented a report on findings into the 3.6 million cedi expenditure.

It is unclear whether the minister is implicated in the deal described as fraudulent by a section of the public.

Her personal assistant Egypt Kudator says she has taken full responsibility for the expenditure, hence the resignation.

“The Chief of Staff thought she should take it easy and hold on until all the reports are out and all of this is settled but she thought for her own interest and for the interest of the government, she wants to resign,” he said.

The Minority Leader who first raised the issue on the floor of parliament told Joy News government must go deeper into other contracts executed by Smarty production, the company that undertook the rebranding.

He said the Madam Attivor’s decision to resign will improve democratic and accountable governance.

He however said the Transport Minister’s resignation does not in any way exonerate central government from the malfeasance.

Meanwhile the seven Ghanaians who sued the Minister in the high court over the branding expenditure say they are confident the resignation will allow for a more transparent investigation into the issue.

Michael Annor, one of the seven persons who sued the Minister said “whiles we welcome her decision to resign, we want to also state that this in no way truncates our case.

“It will pave way for a more transparent investigation into the matter and that is good news,” he added.

According to him, until they get full disclosure on the issue, “we won’t relent, we want to set the precedence for Ghanaians that we can demand accountability from elected or appointed representatives.”
