Ministry Of Food and Agriculture Must Be Split To Enhance Quality Service Delivery – Farmer Anthony

The president of the Ghana Chamber for Agribusiness and Chief Executive Officer of Farm Masters Africa, Farmer Anthony Morrison has opined that the Ministry Of Food And Agriculture must be split into two in order to effectively discharge its duties.

This he said is despite the fact that it has a constitutional mandate to facilitate quality service delivery in the Ghana Agricultural sector to enhance the quality of life among the farmers as well as improve upon the country’s food security.

Farmer Anthony speaking on Rite FM’s Agric Forum stated that the ministry alone handling all the affairs of agriculture is beyond them since their strength for proper transformation in the agricultural sector has always come as a challenge.

He noted that the ministry of energy was handling all the affairs of the energy sector but the reborn of the National Petroleum Authority has brought total transformation to the sector as people are held accountable and are also called to answer questions that will have negative impact on the country and same can be done to the agriculture ministry.

According to him, the area that is key to total transformation of the country’s economy and the wellbeing of the people are being neglected and therefore struggling to survive with just a little attention centered in one building under the ministry.

The CEO of Farm Masters Africa said its time the country sets up an Agriculture Development Authority or the Agriculture Regulatory Authority which will be responsible for regulating the importation of other foodstuff into the country to foster the rapid development of the agricultural sector.

He also explained that the importer will have to go to the Authority given the mandate to ask whether what the person wants to import can be produced in Ghana which could result in the creation of jobs among the Ghanaian youth as well as boosting agriculture in Ghana.

Farmer Anthony added that the Authority can also liaise with the local banks and give credit facility to the importer and task them to do the business in Ghana to boost the sector and stop using huge sums of money for importation and making other people billionaires in their country while Ghanaian farmers still suffer.

Farmer Morrison noted that Ghanaian farmers are hardworking people who can produce enough with the minimum assistance, to feed Africa and the entire world since the country has whatever it takes to produce more.
