Minister worried at rate of teenage pregnancy among school children

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Mavis Ama Frimpong has expressed worry over the rate at which pregnancy keep on increasing among young ladies writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Hon. Mavis made this known to the press after she has visited some BECE centers in the Eastern Region yesterday after recording some pregnancy cases at the examination centres.

She said in 2013 when she toured some examination centers in the region, sixteen (16) girls were pregnant,  in 2014, five (5) pregnancy cases were recorded among the girls and two girls were pregnant at this year basic education certificate examination (BECE), which she said is worrying to the nation.

She explained that, the project under taken by regional coordinating council and Ghana education service (GES) to reduce the rate of teenage pregnancy among school children has help a lot this year.

Hon. Mavis therefore calls on all parents not to stop their children from taken part in the examination when they are get pregnant.

Meanwhile at her visit to one examination center at Nankese in the new Juabean North Municipality a male candidate could not rite the examination and continue to weep behind the paper shouting my mother.
