Story by Anthony Ayertey:
The Eastern Regional Minister, Honorable Mrs. Mavis Ama Mawuena Gati, has registered her displeasure regarding the poor state of work undertaken by the contractor behind the construction of a 14-unit dormitory block which was commissioned by President John Dramani Mahama at the Krobo Girls Senior High School at Odumase Krobo in the Eastern region.
The building, which is barely two years old, has already developed threatening cracks all over it, posing a lot of risk and imminent danger to its occupants who happen to be the students. On the other hand, the students of the prestigious institution have no option but to continue occupying the building, despite the continuous danger it poses to their lives.
Madam Frimpong whose attention was drawn to the shoddy work when she inspected ongoing projects at the school expressed worry at the development, noting that the contractor’s attention would be drawn to the defects and made to as a matter of urgency initiate repair works on the building at his own cost.
The project was amongst some three contracts awarded by the GETFund to be undertaken in the school.
But the students have other worries to contend with. Opposite the ‘troubled’ dormitory is a 10 unit bath house which is also in the same dilapidated condition and which equally poses the same level of danger to the school girls.
Speaking to the Municipal Coordinating Director of the Lower Manya Municipal Assembly, Mr. Daniel Acolatse noted that the assembly had no idea who the contractor was and the details of the contract because the process of awarding the contract and its subsequent execution did not go through the assembly. He was therefore not in the position to give any response when contacted by Rite news.
Meanwhile, Rite News is making all necessary efforts to contact the contractor behind the project for further probing into the matter.
Miss Ama Frimpong as part of her visit also paid a courtesy call on the Konor of the Manya Krobo Traditional Council, Nene Sackitey II.
