Madam Hana Koranteng, spokesperson for WAKAM, a group that looks into the activities of the mining centres to regulate their activities to protect people staying in mining centres, has shared her deep lamentations concerning the effects of mining activities on farming activities in the country. According to her, this was unsafe for residents of affected communities as well as on the general agricultural activities.
Miss Koranteng noted that mining activities in the country were really affecting farming activities and thus making it unsafe for people to stay within these sites. This according to her could be a recipe for poverty in affected communities since farms were being destroyed through the illegal activities of the mining companies.
Miss Koranteng was not particularly happy about these illegal activities of the mining companies which results in the destruction of farms and water-bodies. What is worse, miss Koranteng reveals is, the situation where mining companies connived with some callous military personnel to maltreat affected residents.
