Manya Krobo Traditional Council condemns attack on Yilo NHIS manager, says indigenes of Yilo may have to leave Manya

Public Relations Officer of the Manya Krobo Traditional Council, Nene Asada Ahor II has condemned the attack launched on the manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme office in Somanya in the Yilo Krobo municipal.

“I’m surprised the people of Yilo are acting this way because the people of Yilo Krobo and those of Manya Krobo are one and so for the people of Yilo to say they don’t want anyone from Manya to manage the NHIS facility in Yilo is unfortunate,” Nene Asada Ahor II said on the Rite Morning Ride on Friday, December 14th in an interview with show host, Austin Ofori Addo.

Irate men believed to be supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region on Thursday 13th December 2018 locked up the office of the manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) at Somanya.

The men besieged the office in protest of the manager’s appointment.

The PRO of the traditional council who noted that indigenes of both Yilo and Manya are one people, buttressed his position as he recalled that the first manager of the Manya Krobo office of the NHIS, Mr. Andrews Odonkor Nartey, hailed from Manya Krobo and occupied the position for 13, adding that indigenes of Manya did not protest his appointment.

Nene Asada Ahor II called upon the security agencies in the district to arrest the perpetrators of the act and query them to determine where they came from, threatening that the traditional council will advise itself if the police failed to act swiftly.

“We are giving them (police) up to Monday and if they aren’t able to make any arrests, we will advise ourselves,” he averred, calling on indigenes of Yilo Krobo to equally come for their people working in Manya and not hesitate to send the rest of indigenes of Manya working in Yilo back to Manya.

“If by Monday nothing is done about this, we will apply the law. We will not do it the way they are going about it because we want peace. If they want it the illegal way, we can give it to them,” he threatened.

The attack appeared to be the latest of similar incidents that have characterized the first two years of the NPP government.

The group forcibly pulled out the manager from the office and locked the entrance with padlocks disrupting the workday.

The irate supporters are upset the new manager, one Emmanuel Martey, is not a native of Somanya.

A visit by Rite news to the facility on Friday revealed the place was still locked.
