Mango farmers unable to produce quality mangoes for export

The CEO for Hetsebi farms in Trom, Mr. Emmanuel Annan has stated that mango farmers were unable to produce a lot of quality mangoes for the export market this year, this according to him is attributed to low agro input.

In an interview with him on “Akuafo Si Sen” a segment on the Morning Ride, Mr. Annan revealed that, the inputs are too expensive for farmers to afford therefore hindering their ability  to match the production of high quality of mangoes for the export market.

What we exported this year is below 20% of our total production so we currently depend on the few fruit processing companies in the country but unfortunately for us, this same processing companies also buy mangoes from countries like Burkina Faso at cheaper prices than what we produce here in Somanya. He revealed.

Even though Ghana has two main fruit processing companies with some smaller processing companies, their capacity is below what mango farmers in Somanya produces.

Mr. Annan therefore suggested that mango farmers in Somanya should get their own processing plant since they are the largest producers of mangoes in the country to avoid situations where mangoes go waste especially in the major seasons.
