Mamprusi factions opt for “blood burial”

Two farming communities in the East Mamprusi District of the Northern Region have resolved to end the fatal clashes between them by going for a traditional “blood burial”.

The blood burial will signify an end to the conflict which broke out between the feuding factions – Bongni and Bombila – last year that claimed the lives of three people and displaced hundreds of residents.

The disagreement between the two communities was over a parcel of land.

The blood burial would involve the two communities going to the scene where the three people died. Remnant of the deadly incident, be it blood stains or anything related to the deceased left at the scene, and if nothing of that sort could be traced, the sand there is gathered. Whatever is found there is taken to a place where rituals are performed and the item ceremoniously buried.

The resolution to the blood burial in the two farming communities follows a mediation process by the East Mamprusi District Security Council with the support of the overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Council the Nayiri, Na Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga.

District Chief Executive for East Mamprusi Adam Imoro said the District Security Council was able to bring peace to the two communities through series of engagements backed by the Nayiri.

Assemblyman for Sakogu Electoral Area, Achiri Banobi tells Joy News the conflict has impacted negatively on their children’s education and agriculture in the area. He was therefore happy to see the communities come to an agreement to smoke the peace pipe.
