President John Dramani Mahama has pledged Ghana’s support for countries struggling to deal with terrorism.
He charged Ghana’s security agencies, therefore, to revive the spirit of patriotism in order to fight such new forms of security threat.
The West African sub-region in particular is fighting to contain terrorist threats posed by Boko Haram in northern Nigeria and Ansar Dine in northern Mali.
Speaking at the graduation parade of the officer cadets in Accra on Thursday, October 22, President Mahama said: “We stand in solidarity with nations that are affected by terrorism because the threat to their safety is a threat to our common security.”
He expressed worry as to how suicide bombers and car bombs are detonated in densely populated areas, “killing and maiming many”.
“These are new forms of threat to our common security we must train and prepare to confront.”
President Mahama called for “a conscious revival” of patriotism and loyalty to the nation in order to face the fight against terrorism.
He used the opportunity to congratulate the graduating officers, calling on them to display a high sense of integrity in service.
“You must, therefore, not behave with the highest professional efficiency but you must also display a high sense of moral integrity.”
He promised officers new residential apartments.
Senior Under Officer Rodney Odoi of Regular Career Course 55 was presented with the Sword of Honour for being the Best All Round Officer Cadet.
