Mahama endorses Stonebwoy: leaves out Sarkodie and Shatta Wale

As busy as John Mahama is, as President of Ghana, he still manages to find some time to wind down with some great hiplife music.

His list of favourite hiplife artistes without any surprise featured the reigning Ghana Musical Awards artiste of the Year, Stonebwoy.

He also won the Best International Act at the 2015 BET Awards recently. The surprise though for many entertainment and industry watchers would be the President’s exclusion of Sarkodie and Shatta Wale.

The President while speaking on Uniiq FM to commemorate the World Youth day also mentioned VIP [now VVIP] and Wuta.

The President also revealed he loves other genre of Ghanaian music and some of his favourite musicians include Shasha Marley, Gyadu Blay Ambuley but his all-time favourite is Kojo Antwi.

“I like a lot of the old artistes, of course Kojo Antwi continues to be my favourite. I like Gyedu Blay-Ambolley, KK Kabobo. I like the young ones too, I listen to some of the old young ones like Shasha Marley, Wutah, VIP.

But recently I listened to Stonebwoy, I think he’s got a good hit with Sheekena and Baafira, that’s also a good one. I like Ghanaian music so I listen to most our artistes,” said president Mahama.

He however fell short of mentioning popular and controversial artistes Sarkodie and Shatta Wale who have won the hearts of many Ghanaians with their songs. Sarkodie has also won several awards both locally and on the international stage.

He has recently released some songs including “The masses,” “Inflation,” and “Dumsor” chastising the government on worsening economic situation among others.

Commenting on his favourite movies, President Mahama said he “love Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s movies, Lil Win, Agya Koo” among others.

He said usually when he travels, he takes some of these movies along to enjoy while on his trips.
