Low Rainfall Affecting Mango Farmers

Mango farmers in the Yilo Krobo District of the Eastern Region are complaining bitterly about the low rainfall pattern being experienced in the minor season.

In an interview with, Mr. Emmanuel Annan, a mango farmer of the Yilo Krobo District as well as the Zonal organizer for the Yilo Krobo Mango Farmers Association said, even though they made much yield in the major season things have not favoured them, since they expected much harvest than what they harvested.

He further stated emphatically that the rainfall pattern has not favoured them in their production process which is likely to result in low quality and poor yield of their produce.

He indicated that the minor season is already noted for low yields which are direct consequences of the low rainfall pattern which goes a long way to affect their productivity.  He further decried the poor nature of the rainfall which has affected the flowering stage of their fruits since the soil lacks the adequate water supply to enhance and support the flowering stage.

He further added that farmer’s lack an irrigation scheme that will help supply water to their plants during the minor season in order to improve yield and increase productivity and called on the district assembly and relevant authorities to come to their aid.
