Let’s Chase Out Galamsey Operators with Stringent Measures – Adentan MP

Member of Parliament for the people of Adentan Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Hon. Yaw Buabeng Asamoah is proposing to his government led by President Akufo Addo to come up with rigorous measures to restrict the operations of the small scale miners.

According to him, chasing the Galamsey operators as affectionately called with guns by the military is not enough means to stop them from operating as some people have always come up with other means to indulge in the illegal operations.

Speaking on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ Morning Show, Hon. Yaw Buabeng Asamoah insisted the only means to control the operations of the Galamsey operators in order to protect the country’s water bodies is to pass a law which will restrict the movement of the miners.

“There must be stringent measures to enforce Galamsey operators to operate under certain condition to protect our rivers so that those who operate without caution can be tamed,” he charged.

“There must be strong laws to restrict Galamsey operators as this will deter them from destroying the river bodies,” he added.

He bemoaned the extent to which the ‘Galamsey operators’ are causing great havoc to the water bodies; adding that even though in some circumstances the small scale miners need to be chased out with guns due to their persistence, there must be measures for them to pay penalties.

He emphasized that the indigenes that operate on small scale should be guided by some laws to restrict their operations to stay away from the rivers.

He however feared that if the water bodies are not protected with measures, the Galamsey operators will end human race as water is life.
