Kwesi Appiah Tipped For Return as Ghana Coach after AFCON Fiasco

Information reaching Rite Sports indicates that, Former Ghana Coach Kwesi Appiah has been widely tipped to return to the Black Stars coaching job after the team’s disappointing showing at the just ended Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

The campaign which saw Ghana finishing fourth in the tournament has resulted in the Stars Isreali coach Avram Grant tendering in his resignation. The result also meant that Ghana’s dream of a fifth AFCON trophy after 35 years could not be materialized.

The Israeli who succeeded Kwesi Appiah spent two years with the national team. He took over in late 2014 where he led the team to the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations 2015 in Equatorial Guinea and only lost on penalties to eventual champions, the Ivory Coast.

Grant was therefore expected to win the recent edition. However, he fell below expectation. With Ghana looking for a new coach, former coach Kwesi Appiah has been tipped to get the job back.

Appiah is currently coach of Al Khartoum in Sudan, where he was named coach of the year.
