Angry executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Kwahu South/Mpraeso in the Eastern Region have violently clashed with their District Chief Executive, Joseph Omare at the latter’s office.
Michael Akrofi reports that the Regional executives thronged the office of the DCE to inquire about the visit of the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Antwi Boasiako Sekyere to the area on Friday.
But what seems to be a mere inquiry turned violent when the DCE and the executives engaged each other in an heated exchange.
The executives accused the DCE of threatening to “shoot them” and already infuriated by the threats from Joseph Omare began to exchange words with him.
In the midst of the melee, someone reportedly sprayed ‘pepper’ in the eyes of the visitors.
Accusations
The executives have accused the DCE of threatening to hurt them.
Speaking to Peace FM’s Michael Akrofi, Smart Nkansah; Organizer of NDC Kwahu South narrated the scene at the office.
“It (pepper spray) was in his office drawer…It is due to his ill motives that’s why he has a pepper spray can hidden in his drawer. Nobody provoked him. When we went there, he was with a certain man and he gave us the permission to come in. As soon as the man left, he (the DCE) began to shout at us and decided to walk us out of his office. When we decided to have a talk with him, he immediately removed the pepper spray…He started spraying it and those closest to him were most affected,” he recounted.
He disclosed that four executives are seriously injured and have been admitted at a hospital.
Denial
Speaking in an interview with Michael Akrofi, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Kwahu South, Joseph Omare debunked the claims by the party’s Organizer saying the executives rather bought the pepper spray and stormed his office to harm him.
According to him, he was having discussions with his Presiding member when the executives bumped into his office and hell broke loose as they popped up the pepper spray in a bid to to hurt him.
But he swiftly blocked it and struck the spray with his fist in self-defense, he told the reporter.
He also accused them of stealing money when they stormed his office.
“They brought the pepper spray. Somebody lifted it up and I struck it with my hand…When they came, I was with somebody here; the Presiding member. But they insisted that he goes out of the office. They started with my Secretary. So, I told them to exercise patience because I’m discussing something of importance with the Presiding member and after he departs, I will attend to them…What I saw was that when my Secretary decided to go out, they held him and refused to let him go…They even stole my money and other stuff.”
To him, he had to struggle with them because “that was the danger.”
ASP Wiredu, District Police Commander corroborated the incident and indicated that the Police are yet to hold investigations into the matter.
