Kpong Fishermen Call For Government Support

The fisher folks at Kpong in the Lower Manya Municipality of the Eastern Region have appealed to the government as a matter of urgency to come to their aid regarding takeover of aquatic weeds on the surface of Kpong river.

Mr. Desmond who spoke to Rite FM on Agric Forum said the situation is making fishing very difficult hence the need for government intervention.

“The weeds have taken over the river. The fishes too have gone under the weeds to take cover so we don’t catch them as we used to do. Now the business of fishing has declined because of the weeds. We are pleading on the government to come to our aid,” he said.

He added that fishermen are on a neglect side of government when it comes to decision and policy formulation in the agricultural sector. ”We have realized that government does not take us into consideration because they don’t budget for us,” he lamented.
