KPESSAH WHYTE UNSUCCESSFUL IN MP BID

Presidential Staffer at the presidency and National Coordinator of the National Service Scheme has lost in his to capture the Shai Osudoku parliamentary seat from incumbent, David Tetteh Assumeng. Campaign team of the doctor who had hours to the polls been beaming with smiles in anticipation of a victory told this reporter how poised they were for victory. Ironically however, neither Kpessah Whyte nor the incumbent could capture the seat.

Rather, it’s Williams Desmond Ocloo, a renowned Chattered Accountant, who has won the Shai Osudoku constituency National Democratic Congress elections which were held over the weekend. It was a victory that did not happen on a Silver platter as he had to shed off stiff competition from three formidable corners in the persons of incumbent Member of Parliament, David Tetteh Assumeng who was chasing a fourth term, Ebenezer Adjikla, NADMO coordinator for Dodowa as well as presidential staffer, Dr. Michael Kpessah Whyte.

At the end of a stiff contest, it was ‘Willie’ as his fans affected called him who emerged victorious with some 4,352 votes representing 46.6%. Dr. Michael Kpessah Whyte who equally made a strong showing, came second with 3,202 votes representing 34.2% while incumbent David Tetteh Assumeng came a distant third with 1,279 votes representing 13.2%. The dark horse in the contest, Ebenezer Adjikla lived up to his tag, polling a paltry 399 of the valid votes representing 4.2%.

“This is no victory for Willie alone but that of the National Democratic Congress and Ghana as a whole. I also want to use this opportunity to invite my other colleagues who contested with me to come join hands with me,” William Desmond Ocloo said in an acceptance speech. Though he said the polls were largely devoid of any acrimony, he still apologized for any toes he might have unconsciously stepped on during the heat of the campaign. He went ahead to thank all and sundry who contributed to his success.

Declaration of the results was delayed until 11:40pm because returning officer for Osudoku delayed in submitting his results. He eventually arrived at about 10:20pm. That delay however did not deter supporters of Willie who kept vigil all along till the final declaration of the results deep into the night. Irate supporters of Williams, who had begun celebrations in anticipation of a forgone victory, rode recklessly on motor bikes and cars to show their ecstacy.

In the presidential polls, president Mahama scored an overwhelming 8047 votes representing 88.1% to lead the NDC into next year’s elections while 943 votes representing 10.3% voted against him.
