Kintampo Mango Farmers Cry Over Poor Sales

Mango farmers of Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo region are crying over the poor sale of their fruits. Samuel Effah in an interview with Rite FM, one of the mango farmers in the Brong Ahafo region said lucrative sales which they used to make from the sale of the fruits have sharply declined because patronage of the fruits by consumers has seen a sharp decline.

Samuel Effah said, even though they expected high purchase of their fruits this year, their expectations were not met for varying reasons. He added that mango production has not gone well with them this year as the highly bacteria black sour disease has affected their fruits.

“The presence of the bacteria black sour disease and the inadequate rainfall experience this season has also reduced our yield,” he added. He also lamented that companies such as Tamale IPFC, Bomatte, and other market women who came from the various regions such as Accra, Koforidua, Kumasi etc. to purchase their fruits as well as other companies who have signed contract with them over the purchase of their fruits have failed to comply with the terms and conditions of the contract.

He also said, other market women and companies have complained over the high cost of the fruits and had therefore diverted their purchase in favour of fruits from other countries such as South Africa, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso among others.

He continued by saying, authorities in charge of Mango Farmers Association (MFA) have also failed them as they have refused to perform their duties entrusted to them. He concluded by saying authorities should contact companies who will and can purchase their fruits.
