Government would roll out life insurance policies for fisher folks across the country in December, 2015, Ms. Sherry Ayitey, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, has revealed.

The minister made this known in cape coast when she met various stakeholders in the Central Region to discuss positive actions and options to secure and revamp the fishing industry.

Meanwhile the Chairman for Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fisheries ,GNAFF, Nene Terpkertey Agblezee I has lauded the initiatives by the Fisheries Minister as it is expected to help the fisher folk in the country to improve on their standard of living.

He further stated that, every fisherman should try to be part of an association since the policies will cover only member in the association. Nene Terpkertey has therefore advised the ministry to ensure that the policy when launched will be implemented to sustain the fishermen in the country.

He added that officials who will be in charge of the insurance scheme should not think about their personal interest but rather put Ghana first.
