Improve conditions of service for teachers – Okyenhene

The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has strongly advocated for better conditions of service for teachers to enhance tuition for a reliable future.

He stated that teachers, particularly those at the basic school level, the major force behind education, must be well catered for in order for children to attain effective education.

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin added that there was no better investment a nation could make than to provide quality education for its children.

He made this observation when the management of Samara Company Limited, producers of Sasso Insecticide Spray and Mosquito coil, paid a courtesy call on him in his palace at Kyebi in the Eastern Region, to donate educational materials in support of education in the Kyebi area.

The items included 50,000 copies of branded exercise books embossed with the Okyehene’s image and 50,000 pens. The company also donated an amount of money and some of its products.

The donation was in fulfilment of a promise made to the Okyenhene by Sasso when the group visited the palace in July during a book distribution exercise in the Eastern Region.

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin lauded Samara Company Limited for supporting basic education in Okyeman. He emphasised that education remained the backbone of growth for every nation and without it a country would be heading for doom in terms of development.

Referring to the books, he noted: “This is the best form of investment that can be made in the children, given the fact that education is key and holds the growth of every town and nation in the world.”

Presenting the books to the Okyenhemaa, Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua, a board member of Samara Company Limited, Nana Dr Appiagyei Dankawoso I, said the company decided to partner with the Okyenhene in its education support initiative because traditional leaders had a direct impact on the citizenry.

He also said the company had followed the progress of the Okyeman Environment Foundation with much interest and had decided to support it. He gave an assurance of the company’s readiness to give more support.

The Marketing Manager of Sasso, Mr Sedrick Nartey Ologo, said the initiative was part of Samara Company’s corporate social responsibility to support basic education in Ghana.

For this reason, he said the company had presented 100,000 copies of branded exercise books to schoolchildren in Ghana between December last year and July 2015 in a nationwide book distribution exercise.

Mr Ologo expressed the hope that the books will go a long way to enrich the education of the pupils, adding that another nationwide book distribution will start soon.

The Okyenhemaa expressed her gratitude to the company and asked for more of such support.

She said the queenmothers in the area would be involved in the distribution of the books to schools in their respective domains.

After the presentation, the Okyenhene, together with a representative from Samara Company Limited and Adjoa Afariwaa Dawson, the Eastern Region’s representative of Ghana’s Most Beautiful, distributed some of the books at two basic schools in Kyebi.

The schools were the Kyebi Municipal Assembly Primary and JHS and Christ-Head Institute, with each school receiving 1,000 copies of the books.

The Okyenhene encouraged the teachers to give of their best and advised the pupils to take their education seriously, obey their parents and teachers and also keep their environment clean at all times.
