IEDC to Introduce Mobile Testing Kit to Farmers

International Fertilizer Development Centre (IFDC) in collaboration with private sector and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) are  working together to introduce Mobile Soil Testing Kit to help Farmers know the type of fertilizer suitable for a particular soil.

Speaking with Rite FM, the Chief of Party of IFDC Dr. Kofi Debrah said majority of farmers in Ghana did not have   enough knowledge about soil types and what crop does well on them so they mostly end up  putting square pairs in round holes planting anything that is not suitable for the soil hence reduction in yield production.

According to him they are going to train a number of farmers to equip them with knowledge about the types of soil and the actual fertilizer suitable, to enhance fertilizer application among farmers.

He said even though the program is designed to benefit farmers, the training will involve Agric Extension Officers and not farmers because the Extension Officers will be needed most in educating the farmers.
