I will go for 10% Fund for Agriculture Development-Best Farmer

The 2014 Second National Best Farmer, Nana Obeng Nuako has said he will advocate for ten (10) percent of the National Budget for the development of Agriculture instead of the five (5) percent some farmers are appealing.

He said Ghana’s economy is being held by agriculture and 5% to support the sector will not add any improvement.

Speaking on “Akuafo Si Sen” segment on Rite FM’s Morning Ride, Nana Nuako explained that even though 10% fund will not solve the entire challenges facing the Agriculture sector, but will boost the sector to some extend and also help to increase more production and exportation.

He further stated that government continue to allocate certain amount for agriculture development but the actual farmer at the grass root don’t get the share of the money rather some people  sitting in the office will enjoy the money stating measures should be put in place to ensure fair  disbursement of funds meant for agriculture development.

He therefore called on authorities to involve the leaders of the various associations like NFFAWAG, GNAFF and others in the implementation of plans for the agriculture sector in the sense that they are farmers and they know the real challenges farmers are facing in this country.
