I once believed in Nkrumah’s ideals – Akufo Addo

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revealed he was once a believer in the ideals of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Nana Addo said that belief in the ideals was instead for a brief period in his life as a boy.

“”There was a brief period where I was attracted by his [Nkrumah’s] ideas,” he revealed on Accra-based Starr FM.

This he said happened after Nkrumah came to stay at their home in Accra ‘for a very long time’ during his days with the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC).

Nana Addo however said that he discarded that belief as he grew up and felt like he wanted to do the job his father and his uncle JB Danquah that always attracted many people into his home.

“My house was always full of people because my father was one of those people who brought about the nationalist movement and was at the centre of Ghana politics…I remember as a child when I said to myself that whatever my father was doing was a good thing because it seems to affect lots of people.

“I said to myself that I would do that when I grow up…my very concrete memory was the rise of 1949 when I remember Accra was very hot and I thought to myself that this was very exciting…,” he said.

This notwithstanding, Nana Addo said he would be very much happy if Ghanaians would put their ideological differences aside and move ahead in their diversity to develop Ghana.
