I Am Proud To Be A Farmer – Hon Hannah Bissiw

Deputy Ministry of Agric in charge of Livestock, Dr. Hannah Louisa Bissiw has revealed that she’s proud to be a farmer. The deputy minister whose background as a farmer was not known to many told guests when she sat in as special guest of honour during the launch of the ‘School Farm Project’ at Fotobi near Nsawam in the Eastern region that she was a proud farmer.

Miss Bissiw who is a farmer and veterinarian herself said per her trade name she had a passion for farming and at the moment cultivates maize, ginger and pepper. ‘I make time to go to the farm and when it’s planting time, I make time to join the workers to plant because I am a girl from the village and live a village life.’

‘I know what it is as a child to go to bed at night without food, I know what it is walk without shoes, I know it is to have lies in your hair, I know it is with the sores on your head to go for firewood, I know what it is as a child to sell on the streets of my village…so I do remember where I am coming from,’ Dr. Bissiw revealed.

The deputy minister who stated that she is a Cuban trained doctor said the Cubans, as part of their training imbibed the spirit of hard work into them which included farming.

Miss Bissiw who said most of the brains in Blue Skies were some of the greatest brains that Cuba brought out, said she was a farmer by birth and by training and proud to find herself in the Ministry of Food and Agric.
