Hold Politicians Accountable – Davies Korboe

President of the National Farmers and Fisherman Award Winners Association of Ghana (NFFAWAG), 2009 national best farmer as well as Board Chairman of FMSL multimedia, Mr. Davies Narh Korboe has tasked farmers in the country to hold politicians accountable and demand from them what is due them. According to him, farmers ought to task politicians to speak agric, demand from politicians what plans they have for agric if voted into power, where they are going to get the funding from, how they intend using those resources as well as what implementations they intend doing within the agric sector.

Mr. Korboe made the call when he was speaking as special guest of honour during Rite FM’s maiden Rite Agri-Forum held on Wednesday in Somanya. According to him, it was time for the agricultural sector to undergo a ‘serious revolution,’ adding that once that was done, farmers would be recognized everywhere.

On a rather light note, the NFFAWAG president charged the large gathering of farmers whom he said formed the majority of the populace to ‘come together and form a political party and win elections.’

Mr. Korboe who commands the largest mango farm in the country noted that farmers stood the chance to win elections in this country if they formed their own political party. ‘Farmers are the majority in this country and we can easily form our own political party and win elections if we’re really well organized and that is why I entreat you all to join various associations in the country,’ he charged.

Aside calling on farmers to be united, the 2009 best farmer who prides himself in being a farmer entreated all farmers to join recognized associations in the country while learning very well so as to catch up with the global world.

He added that the award winners were embarking on the campaigns with the various presidential candidates and was in arrangements with national security to provide them with the necessary support and security to aid them champion their campaign on who should be elected into power to take the welfare of farmers to heart.

In an interview with Rite news, Mr. Korboe said he was impressed with the Rite Agro-Forum. According to him, his expectations prior to the event were to see farmers come together to deliberate on issues affecting them as well as to see government and stakeholder participation. According to him, though his expectations were largely met, he nevertheless looked forward to an even bigger event in 2017.

He expects active participation from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Trade as well as development partners in the next edition of the forum.
