Help Farmers With Technology-Veep To Researchers

The Vice-President, Dr Mohamadu Bawumia has called on researchers in the agriculture industry to help farmers with modern technology to increase food production in the country.

He said the use of modern technology would also go a long way to attract the youth into the agricultural sector, since most of them were very uncomfortable with the traditional ways of farming.

Dr Bawumia disclosed this at the 2nd graduation ceremony held by the University of Energy and Natural Resource (UENR) in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

A total of 628 students  were conferred with various Bachelor degrees among others.

The Vice President said government is determined to put measures in place that would boost the agricultural sector, considering the fact that it formed a crucial part of the development agenda.

“We intend to ensure that issues that affect the progress of the agricultural sector are eliminated,” he added.

Dr Bawumia however indicated that, policy makers in the past seem to have failed to make policies that could create synergy for both sectors.

This oversight he said, has created a knowledge gap particularly between farmers, researchers and technology they need to improve their yields.

He has called for an improvement in collaboration among farmers, researchers, and government because it’s the key to climate resilience and food security.
