Gunmen were not NPP members – Northern Region NPP

The Northern Regional Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied reports that the gunmen who opened fire on a group of party supporters in the region are from the camp of Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong.

Earlier media reports indicated that a meeting which was held by party supporters on Monday night was disrupted by some supporters of the National Chairman and General Secretary.

However, a statement signed by the Northern Regional Communications Director of the party, Abdul Kudus indicated that the gunmen were not members of the party.

“Yes, there was a reported gun shot, but it is instructive these gun shots happened around the same place that gunmen, prior to the national delegates in Tamale, shot at members of the NPP who were having fun and wounding several of our supporters,”he explained.

Mr. Kudus believes such reports form measures by some “opponents of the party to cash in on the seeming confusion within the party to cause problems in the region.”

He therefore called on the Police to arrest those spreading those false reports.

“We are by this calling on the Police to rise up to the occasion with all the proactiveness required to arrest the evil minds at play”
