Gov’t will soon pay all fertilizer subsidies-minister

The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture in charge of crops, Dr. Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan has assured that government is progressively making arrangement to ensure that all payments for the 2015 fertilizer subsidy programme are made by the end of the year.

Some fertilizer supplying companies like Yara Ghana Limited has already pulled out from the government subsidy programme because they were having challenges with government’s delay paying their monies which was threat to their business.

Hon. Yakubu speaking to Rite News in an interview said, he appeared before the parliament yesterday to respond to some questions about the state of government on the fertilizer subsidy programme and the 2015 crop season.

In appearance in parliament, the Hon. Deputy Minister assured that, there is a general policy agreement that most transaction conducted in 2015 will be paid for and not carry towards 2016.

He has revealed that, the ministry of food and agriculture have had a meeting with the ministry of Finance and the outcome was that, surely there will be a release of funds for the payment of the fertilizer.

Hon. Yakubu said, Yara Ghana Limited entry into the programme is possible, though they have not reviewed any contract with them but it is more likely they to engage them in the next fertilizer subsidy programme.
