Gov’t, MoFA should seek ideas from African countries to deal with Fulani’s farming

The 2014 National Best Farmer Mr. George Asamoah has advised the government and the ministry of food and agriculture to seek farmers and experts from other African countries to adapt their ways of farming.

According to him, this will help the farmers to adapt more skills on how crop farmers and Livestock farmers can carry out their activities without creating conflicts such as reported of Fulani herdsmen destroying crops.

Mr. Asamoah said, this will help the Fulani herdsmen to stop their animals from destroying farmers crops noting that, in Ivory coast, farmers cultivate crops and also rear animals but the animals (cows) do not destroy their crops unlike in Ghana where Fulani herdsmen allow their cows to graze or destroy farmers crops.

According to him, we need to develop such strategies from them on how to manage our crops and the issue of rearing cows in the country adding that, it isn’t bad to rear cattle in Ghana but it is unfortunate that, most of the Fulani herdsmen are destroying farmer’s crops with their cows.

Mr. Asamoah speaking to rite news said the actions of these Fulani herdsmen is affecting farming activities, therefore there is a  are need to stop such acts, else it will result in decline in the agricultural sector.
