Gov’t lied: No funds has been released for poultry farmers

The Association of Local Poultry Farmers in Ghana has debunked claims by government that it has released funds for the pilot phase of the Ghana Broiler Re-vitalisation Project leading to the creation of jobs in the industry.

A statement released and signed by the Minister for Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah stated that government through the Export Trade Agricultural and Industrial Development Fund (EDAIF), released GH¢ 245.4 million to local industries in over 125 different projects in the pharmaceuticals, rice, sheanut, poultry and textiles industries among others, leading to the creation of jobs for thousands of Ghanaians.

But the association has discredited the claims. Speaking to Citi Business News, Vice President of the local poultry farmers association, Mr. Napoleon Agyemang Oduro said the assertions are false adding that the project has been static since 2015.

‘‘The initiation was made by the poultry farmers association and government. There is nothing to hide that it was a private financier who funded the project since no amount of money was released in support,” he observed.

Napoleon Oduro added, “At least, I can attest to the 650,000 birds that government says we raised; 300,000 of them were handled by fourteen beneficiaries in the Ashanti region. These were financed by a private investor and 350,000 by Darko farms. It was not carried from funding from the thirty-nine million as promised from the beginning by of the policy. It was purely private intervention.
