Gov’t failure to account for 11 million Euros cause of our water crisis – MP

Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri Hon. Frank Annor-Dompreh has accused government of mismanaging a grant of 11 million Euros given it by the Belgium government, which was meant for an expansion of a water project in the constituency.

According to him, the inability of government to account for the money and embark on the project, led to the water crisis in the constituency some months ago.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tutu on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the legislator said the failure on government to judiciously manage the grant, and invest it in the expansion project contributed to about 90 per cent of the water crisis in Nsawam Adoagyiri.

The Belgium government he revealed, planned of adding an additional amount of 5 million Euros to the grant, but rescind their decision due to government’s inability to account for the first grant released to Ghana.

Hon. Frank Annor Dompreh added, the thievery, corruption and mismanagement in the Mahama led administration nearly led to severe dangers due to the water crisis they encountered as a people.

He lauded the vice presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamaudu Bawummia, for commissioning four bore holes in the constituency to help resolve the water crisis.

The former deputy governor of the Central Bank some months ago pledged to drill four boreholes for the constituency after they were hit with severer water shortage as their only source of drinking water dried up.

The boreholes were commissioned yesterday by the vice presidential candidate at a short ceremony.

The MP said, the initiative by Dr. Bawumia and said it confirms the vision he and his presidential candidate, Nana Addo have to transform this country.

He chided President Mahama for failing to release their MPs Common Fund with arrears dating back 2014, a situation he said has staled development in the constituency.

According to him, he had personally constructed about five (5) public toilets in some selected areas in the constituency as it remains one of their daunting challenge for them.
