By: Austin Ofori Addo:

Mr. Anthony Aidoo, the 2012 national best cashew farmer who doubles as national president for the Corporative Cashew Farmers Association has lauded steps being taken by the government to institute a cashew board to regulate the activities of the cashew industry.

The deputy Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Ahmed Alhassan Yakubu has announced that the setting up of a cashew board was in the offing to regulate the activities of the cashew industry to enhance the development of the sector, adding that everything was almost set for that.

According to Mr. Aidoo, the move being undertaken by the authorities is the right move as cashew farmers don’t have any policy regulating the cashew industry. This he was worried had resulted in the farmers and the buyers from other countries disregarding most of the industry’s regulations.  He described how buyers moved from one farmer to the other to buy the cashew with their scales which has really affected the quality of cashew produced in Ghana.

He further stated that when the board is implemented, it will help the cultivation and the value chain in general. He stated that most of the challenges they are facing in the cashew industry is as a result of the absence of a cashew board to regulate its activities in the country.

Therefore urged the authorities to make sure it works.
