Government Urged To Impress On ADB To Provide Soft Loans To Farmers

By: Austin Ofori Addo

The 2009 National Best Farmer who doubles as chairman of the National Farmers and Fisherman Award Winners Association of Ghana, Mr. Davies Narh Korboe has urged the government to put pressure on the Agric Development Bank to provide soft loans for farmers to enable them enlarge their farms and also boost agriculture production in the country.

Mr. Narh Korboe said if successive governments chose agriculture as the back bone of the country, then the Agriculture Development Bank is basically owned by the government. ‘What then prevents the government by making sure that the interest they get is given to the farmers as a soft loan?’ he queried.

He also urged the government to take another look at the whole agric sector and see where policies are not working so as to get the right people on board. This he noted should lead to finding and putting the right people on board through debate to help such policies work to lift the agric sector up to a different level.
