Government Tax Release Does Not Reflect On The Ground

The 2017 Budget Statement presented by Hon. Ken Ofori Atta March this year indicated that it had abolished over 10 taxes, considered to be nuisance taxes.

According to the Agriculture Minister, Government has further reduced the prices of fertilizers by fifty percent with the firm believe that it will motivate farmers to increase crop yields and also pave way for more exports.

However Ritefmonline.org in an interview with some of the chemical fertilizers and agro chemical sellers they  bemoaned that, these government pronouncements are not reflecting on the ground.

An agribusiness man who deals in agro chemicals, seeds and crop nutrients said, “Government reductions and exemptions is limited to those in the ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ program because they continue to pay the same duties us as importers.”

This same complaint was also made by Mr. Seth Mensah, the Marketing Executive Officer of  WYNCA Sunshine Limited.

He bemoaned that “There are a lot of containers seized at the port and Tax issues keeps a lot of containers from China uncleared.”

Meanwhile, he stated his company wholesales insecticides at Ghc 11.00 and weedicides at Ghc 12.00 on respectively. But some farmers from Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo Municipalities disclosed to ritefmonline.org in a separate interview regarding the price that, they are now currently buying the products between Ghc 15.00 and Ghc 17.00 from retailers.
