GMA angry at Peace Council over strike

General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Frank Serebour has lashed out at the National Peace Council for calling on them to rescind their decision.

According to him, calling off the strike action is not on the agenda of the GMA.

The impasse between government and the GMA seem to be getting worse after negotiations with government hit a snag. The situation became murkier after communicators of the ruling party dared them to resign.

However, Chairman of National Peace Council, Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante called on the striking doctors to as a matter of urgency rescind their decision of resigning en masse and come to a compromise with government.

General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana has also appealed to the striking doctors to end the unrest and allow government to address the emerging culture of strikes in the country.

But the GMA says the call by the National Peace Council and the Christian Council is in bad faith because they also turned a deaf ear to their concerns.

Dr. Serebour on Adom FM’s Burning Issues programme expressed disappointment in both the Peace Council and Christian Council who fail to act even when they petitioned them to intervene in the matter.

Though he admitted concerns over the loss of lives, Dr. Serebour pleaded with the general public to rather call the government to order.
