Ghc 11 million has been earmarked by the Veterinary Services Department to embark on a series of educational forums, workshops, medicines and compensation of poultry farmers who were affected by the bird flu invasion, this is according to Mr. Napoleon Oduro, Vice Chairman of the Poultry Farmers Association of Ghana.

The purpose of the allocation, according to the Vice chairman is to aid the various poultry farmers in the country remain in the poultry industry.

Mr. Oduro who made the disclosure in an interview with Omanba Kwadwo Boafo during the ‘Akuafo Sesen’ segment of the Rite Morning Ride noted that Gh¢ 3 million out of the Gh¢ 11 million has been allocated for the compensation of the affected farmers.

The Veterinary Services Department in partnership with the poultry farmers association of Ghana and other stakeholders have put measures in place to curtail the bird flu attack which specifically attacked poultry farming especially during the raining season.

According to him, a number of determinant factors are taken into consideration by the veterinary services department in the compensation process.

These include the number of children as well as the number of other family members dependent on the affected farmer as well as the labour force working on the poultry farm.

This module of compensation by the veterinary service did not go down well with the vice chairman, arguing that affected farmers without the three (3) material requirements were denied the compensation which ranges between Gh¢ 25 to Gh¢30 per a bird.
