Ghana’s women’s relay team wins silver at All-Africa games competition

Ghana’s women’s relay team won silver after finishing second in the women’s 4X100 event at the ongoing All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.

The team repeated their silver medal feat chalked four years ago in Maputo after coming second behind usual favorites Nigeria on Tuesday.

The quartet made of entirely US-based athletes thus Flings Owusu Agyapong, Gemma Acheampong, Janet Amponsah and Beatrice Gyaman finished off the race in grade style by running a time of 43:72 to finish second.

A very good start from Flings Owusu Agyapong saw Gemma Acheampong rapidly handing over her baton to Beatrice Gyaman before national record holder Janet Amponsah finished off the race in style with impressive 15 meters gap away from her Ivorian opponent who placed third.

“Is great to have finished second and win a medal. We knew we had to do something since we couldn’t finish in a good position in the 100 meters event.”

“So we were determined to do it this time around,” Flings Owusu-Agyapong said after the race.

This however increases Ghana’s medals in this year’s All Africa Games from 7 to 8 having won medals in boxing, Judo, Para Sports, Triple Jump, Javelin throw, Heptathlon, Discus throw and weightlifting.
