Ghanaians Urged To Patronage Local Rice

The Ghana Rice Inter-Professional Body on Thursday 1st October 2015 launched the second Ghana National Rice Festival at Accra to attract the attention of the general public on the need to patronage locally produced rice.

In an exclusive interview with Rite fm, the Executive secretary of the Ghana Rice Inter-professional Body, Mr Evans Teye Sackey said rice production was gaining grounds in the sense that rice has become the preferred staple food for most Ghanaian households and farmers are also adding value to their packaging and storage.

He said government needs to support the farmers to create more opportunities for the youth to venture into rice farming stating that even some farmers who have quit the rice farming business are now returning into it.

Mr Sackey has therefore advised Ghanaians to patronage and consume the rice produced in the country to boost the country’s economy and also to enable the farmers to produce more.
