Ghana Taking Backward Steps In Agric – Nana Addo

By Austin Ofori Addo:

Presidential candidate For the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo has lamented that Ghana is taking backward steps as far as agriculture production in the country is concerned.

Nana Addo who stated this in his trip to Paris, France noted that it was a pity that Ghana was taking backward steps in agriculture at a time when neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire is making strides. He noted that Cote d’voire five years ago was a beehive of chaos but due to good leadership they have been able to bring back the agric sector onto its feet.

The NPP flag bearer pointed out that in 2015 alone; Cote d’voire earned over 12 billion dollars from exports of agriculture products while Ghana earned a relatively paltry 2 billion dollars. Worse still, he added that in 2015, the country spent some 1.5 billion dollars on food importation, adding that ghana now imports plantain.

The presidential candidate further stated that Agriculture which in Kufuor’s regime stood at a growth rate of 7.4% dropped to as low as 0.04% in 2015 under the current president Mahama led regime. These he added are facts about the current state of agriculture in Ghana.
