Ghana Has Plant Doctors…But No Equipment For Researches

By Austin Ofori Addo:

The Agriculture Extension Officer for the Yilo Krobo Municipality and a plant doctor, Mr. Jeremiah Nuertey has lamented that though Ghana has the staff to work as plant doctors, they do not have the requisite equipment for research purposes.

Speaking on Kuapa Yo on Rite FM, Mr. Nuertey, while responding to issues concerning recent moth attacks on farms noted that he had sent samples of the affected maize to the United Kingdom for research since the country as yet does not have the capacity to purchase the requisite equipment for the machine.

He added that research is a very expensive undertaking where getting the equipment is a tall order. They only option left to them therefore, Mr. Nuertey adds is to send the samples to the UK.

He singled out KABI which he said is one organization which can purchase such machines from where Ghana can in turn buy it, maintaining that that outfit has the facilities and the staff.

In the face of the destructive nature of the insects, Mr. Nuertey therefore called for a mass spraying exercise in the affected areas which he noted can be the only way forward to combating the moths and their activities.
