GES Extends Placement of BECE Candidates

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has extended the placement of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates into Senior High Schools across the country.

This is after the Service discovered that nearly 150,770 qualified BECE candidates have still not been placed, 24 hours after the initial deadline expired.

Candidates now have up to Tuesday, September 5, 2017 to complete the placement.

Acting Director-General of the GES Prof. Kwesi Opoku-Amamkwa in an interview said the initial 48 hours deadline given coincided with the long holiday, hence the need to extend the deadline.

He noted that the extended date will make room for the candidates to conclude the process.

“By the time that we issued the statement, we gave 48 hours, but we realised that the 48 hours coincided with the long weekend and holiday we had.

“Reports we have received indicates that some still do not have the scratch cards, so what we are saying now is that Monday or Tuesday, they can purchase the cards and go ahead and do the self placement,” he added.

The 2017/18 academic year for all senior high schools will commence on 11th September2017.

Meanwhile, the free SHS logo has been launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, announcing his government’s preparedness to roll out the programme when school commences in a couple of weeks.

Under the free SHS programme, all first year students who qualify into senior high school will not be charged admission, library, science centre, computer laboratory, examination and utility fees.
