It has become very quite obvious that the wide spreading of modernization has resulted in the modernization of the indigenous local food stuffs. in pursuit of this, the Ghana Food Sovereignty has condemned the purchase of genetically modified organism, (GMO) in the Ghanaian farming business.
Speaking to Mr. Kofi Antwi, secretary of the Food Sovereignty Ghana, Mr. Antwi argued that scientists in Ghana have become so reluctant and have refused to probe into the G.M.O. issues which is becoming a threat to the country, adding that G.M.O’s policy does not allow the re-planting of seeds after having it planted once.
Mr. Antwi argued that there is no way we would starve to death as a country if we refuse to adopt the G.M.O. in our farming system. He added that our farmers, for a number of years now, cultivated our local seeds which have yielded better results compared to the G.M. O. According to him, it has been revealed that the G.M.O. has destroyed South Africa as many described it as a savior plant which is virtually untrue.
He stated that the main aim of the G.M.O. is the introduction of it to take over our lands and control our food production. He further stated that if we want to help the farmers to provide us with more hygienic food stuffs, then we should encourage them to plant the local seeds which in a way, would help prevent post-harvest loses.
He concluded that if farmers stop using chemicals on their lands, we would live in a sickness free environment since careful research has revealed that these chemicals have side effects on us, exposing us to cancer, kidney failure and diabetes.
