Food, Safety and Hygiene: Lack of Food Supplements Recipe for Diseases

Madam Gifty Kissinger, a professional nurse at Herbalife has attributed the causes of some of the diseases that affect the human body to the lack of food supplements which provides the body with its needed nutrients.

Speaking in an interaction with Nana Ama Sarfo, host of Food, Safety and Hygiene on Rite FM on Tuesday, the nurse noted that the lack of food supplements which are normally in the form of capsules, tablets and powder which contains minerals, fibre, folic acid and vitamins results in human falling sick due to its absent in our diet.

The professional nurse further urged the public not to only eat a particular type of food but consume a variety of foods in order to access the various nutrients from the various diets. She also cautioned against late night eating which she said was not the best.

‘Some people just eat one type of particular food for a very long time while others too eat very late in the evening which is not the best. There are also others who do not like eating fruits to boost the immune system,’ Madam Kissinger observed.

She therefore advised the public on the importance of food supplements to the human body as well as the need to live a healthy life and also being cautious about our food intake.

Also speaking on the program was Madam Hilda Huadzi who is the Director for Women in Agricultural Development (WAID) at the Lower Manya Krobo Department of Agriculture who added that one of the best methods of food preservations was drying.

According to her, food drying is one of the main processes of food preservation and also comes at no cost compared to other methods of preservation which demands a lot of money.

‘This process of drying protects the food from yeasts, moth and bacterial infections that normally attack food products,’ she added.
