Festivals are Important Celebrations – Dr. Apotey

Branch manager of the Upper Manya Klo Rural Bank limited, as well as a Business, Financial and Investment analyst, Dr. Gabriel Apotey Odeh has underscored the importance of festivals in the Ghanaian and African setting.

Dr. Apotey who was speaking in an interview on Wednesday on Rite FM’s morning show programme, Rite Morning Ride argued that festivals in Ghanaian culture and custom were important celebrations.

Dr. Apotey whose endorsement of festivals was intended to raise awareness among the people of Manya Krobo ahead of the celebration of their impending Ngmayem festival next week further explained that festivals are celebrated in Ghana and the world at large for many reasons.

According to him, these are done in accordance with tribal and cultural rites pertaining to a particular society which takes into accordance the historical backgrounds of the people which equally serves as a platform for the purification of lesser gods according to custom.

Highlighting the benefits realized from the celebration of festivals, Dr. Apotey noted that these are to amongst others unite the people of a particular community. “Festivals have the power to unite people, promote tourism, preserve and maintain culture as well as promote relative business activities,” he explained.

He emphasized that festivals create a platform which help traditional leaders and other stakeholders to plan for developmental projects within their communities while offering them the opportunity to task politicians to deliver on promises made to the people.

The financial analyst further valued the expected economic in flow during the activity. ‘Economically,’ festivals create new businesses for the local people, helps attract valuable sponsorships for organizations as well as serve as an avenue for networking (partners and local businesses to get more investors).

‘It also serves as an avenue where people can accelerate their businesses and finally, serves as a tourist attraction and an avenue for revenue generation for the country,’ Dr. Apotey added.
