Acting president for the Concerned Farmers Association, Nana Opambour Bonsu Boateng has advised all farmers to come together under one umbrella and stop depending on the government to support them for the coming Farmers’ Day celebrations. This according to him is because the farmers have what it takes to support themselves when they are able to come together.
Mr. Opambuor stated that some farmers always took advantage of the Farmers’ Day celebrations to solicit for alms from organizations and devoted donors. This he said was not a healthy practice and surely not the best.
He further advised those in charge of Friday’s Farmers Day occasion to judiciously use the Gh c 5 million given by the government for what is assigned for.
He commended the government for doing its best but said the agricultural sector was on the retrogression due to the insufficient budget allocated the agric sector. He commended Mr. Akwasi Ahwoi for the aggressive manner he tackled the agricultural sector during his turner and called for his reversion to the sector.
